One of the best things about visiting Rila Monastery is that its most iconic spaces are accessible to all without charge. Tickets are only needed for the specific museum exhibitions and for climbing Hrelyo's Tower. This page details who is eligible for free entry and discounted tickets. Who is Eligible?

Free Entry

    • Monastery Courtyard and Main Church: Entry to these areas is free for all visitors, all year round. You can walk through the courtyard, admire the architecture and frescoes, and enter the church without a ticket.
    • Children under 7: Children under the age of 7 get free admission to all the paid museums and exhibitions.

Reduced Tickets

Students: Students are eligible for a reduced price ticket for the individual museums (History Museum, Hrelyo's Tower, etc.). The price is typically 1-2 BGN per museum. A valid student ID may be required.

Please note that there are no general free admission days for the museums (like the first Sunday of the month policies in some other European countries).

How to Get Your Tickets

Free Entry: No ticket is needed. You can simply walk into the monastery complex through the main gates during opening hours.

Reduced Tickets: Reduced tickets for students must be purchased on-site at the museum ticket office, located inside the monastery. Be prepared to show a valid student ID card. It is highly recommended to have cash (BGN) for payment.
