While the main courtyard and church have long opening hours, the various museums and the historic Hrelyo's Tower operate on a more limited, seasonal schedule. Is Rila Monastery open every day?
Yes, the monastery complex is open to visitors 365 days a year, including all public holidays.
Why is Hrelyo's Tower closed in winter?
The tower is closed from October to May primarily for safety reasons due to cold, icy, and snowy conditions on the stone steps and upper levels.
What time is last admission?
For the museums, last admission is generally 30 minutes before the stated closing time. There is no last admission for the courtyard, you can enter any time before it closes at 19:30.
Are the hours different on weekends?
No, the opening hours are the same for weekdays and weekends. However, weekends are much busier, so we recommend visiting on a weekday if possible.
Do the hours change for holidays like Easter or Christmas?
The complex remains open, but there will be special religious services which might temporarily restrict access to parts of the main church. The museum hours generally remain the same.
Can I arrive before the museums open?
